Down By Draya's Bay

Draya loves to sing. Often she makes up her own lyrics. Sometimes they make sense...
Today she was singing "Down by the bay..." and with all the right lyrics until "Did you ever see a horse, kissing a princess?" Well, that would be a site to see:).

Maybe this means she's developing a taste for opera. She was singing and bowing along with it by the 5th time we saw it!

Time for a quick update

I was only gone for five days but a swear Draya seems to have grown-up a little bit. She is talking more coherently and listening a little bit better. She was quite well behaved at the airport when she and Daddy came to pick me up and have lunch yesterday. She liked the airplanes.
The two of them had lots of fun while I was gone, swimming and visiting Grandma & Grandpa. She did miss me but only every once in a while.
Sometimes Draya does the cutest/oddest things. Yesterday at dinner she kept pouring milk on the back of her hand, slurping it off, and then wiping her hand with a cloth... over and over again...
She also enjoys racing mommy from one side of the kitchen to the other.
In the tub Draya likes it when I squirt foamy soap on her toes... over and over again...
She also still loves to sing. Right now Head & Shoulders is her favourite - she breaks into it often.
Every night Draya & I climb into bed and read Sandra Boynton's Pajama Time - twice. She likes to point out who all of the animals are and what they say... "Sheep - baa, Lion - roar, Pig - oink". She has also recently been enjoying Hey Wake Up (same animals) Lizzy's Lion, You're My Little Love Bug (which also plays music), Clifford's Best Friend and many more of the other wonderful books in her collection. I am so glad to be raising a reader!

An old/new habit at two & a music review

Draya found an old/new (not used) soother in one of the baskets in her bedroom. She spent a good chunk of the morning & early afternoon with it in her mouth. She's calling it her 'suckie'. I'm pretty sure this is because some of the kids at daycare have 'suckies' and she just wants one too. Now, Draya never has been one for soothers. She liked & used the one they gave her in the NICU but we never found one after that she would take. She is a thumb sucker. When she's tired or needs comfort her right thumb goes into her mouth and her left hand goes to her belly button. I doubt that this 'suckie' thing will become a 'necessity'. It's just interesting to see the things she's picked up while away from home.
She has also learned her ABC song without us. I just recently added it to our singing repertoire and she already new it. Other favourites we sing - often in the car - include '5 little monkeys', 'head & shoulders' (also fun in the bath) , the magic penny', 'the eansy, weensy spider', teddy bear's pic-nic', 'if your happy & you know it' and, of course, 'the wheel's on the bus'. And ours is not an ordinary bus, it often carries puppies that go "woof woof woof", kitties that go "meow meow meow" monkeys that go "eek eek eek" and numerous other animals after the mommies go "shh shh shh".

Trying to be more grown-up already

Yesterday Draya didn't want any help going down the back stairs. She pushed mommy hand away ever time it was offered. She made it safely... mommy's hand stayed only inches away the whole time.
She also didn't want to hold mommy's hand while walking into the health clinic where the hygenist looked at her teeth an put fluoride on them. (traumatic but necessary... we'll go back in 3 months for another round). Mommy walked on the street side and all was okay.
This morning Draya didn't want to sit in her high-chair, instead she knelt on a kitchen chair at the big table to eat her oatmeal & banana.
At daddy's office Draya saw mommy get water from the cooler. So, she grabbed a little pointy cup too, put it under the tap, filled it and drank some too.
Tonight she watched mommy shred some papers and promptly wanted to shred some too. Needless to say we did NOT let her (we keep the shredder unplugged).

On another note (he he) Draya loves to sing. Her favourite songs are currently "The Wheels on The Bus" & "Jingle Bells"

Right now she is rampaging the Christmas wrap. Mommy is letting her so that she can complete this entry. I'm going to see what I can salvage now... Cheers!

A letter to Draya

Happy 2006 little peanut. I have decided to start you your very own blog. A place that I can use to update your growth and development. A place to document how your days go and write amusing stories about thing you do and eventually say. I'll post photos and anything else that seems appropriate. This is mommy's plan... we'll see how it goes...
Right now you are asleep on my chest as I type. You have been quite cranky all day so far. We slept in until 11 am and then you didn't want any cereal at breakfast. Ate some bananas and a few cherios but that's it. Now you've been sleeping on me again for over an hour. I figure it's either teething or possibly a growth spurt. Poor munchkin. I know you'll need a diaper change soon but I don't want to wake you.
You just turned 10 months old on January 4th. 8 months adjusted but your definitely further along than most 8 month olds when it comes to most things. You are USUALLY a happy, cheerful child who likes people and having her photo taken. Your favourite foods seem to be banana, oranges, cherios, crackers, puffed wheat and cottage cheese but you have a fairly broad pallet and will usually eat most anything I give you. You can pick up and get some small foods into your own mouth but still prefer when I put them there for you.
Your favourite toys are ones that make noise. Your activity table and moving ball rank pretty high. You also really love your stuffed animals. You are often fine playing on your own (but we play with you lots too) and you are ALMOST crawling. Currently you can scoot backwards on your bum and roll around, so you ARE mobile, but life is going to get even more exciting/harrowing very soon!
You love to babble and I'm pretty sure that your first words are going to be "mama", "dada" and "cat". Your favourite song is "You are my Sunshine", when I sing it to you you calm/quiet down and listen (usually).
Mommy & Daddy, Grandma & Grandpa, Nana & Papa and all of your aunts, uncles and cousins, by blood and by choice, love you very much. You are our little munchkin, punk-a-lunk, peanut, angel, sweetheart, moogle, blessing from above.
